By train to Bucharest and the Carpathians

Despite the fact that there is no direct connection in the 2016/2017 timetable between the Czech Republic and Romania, you can travel in comfort from Prague, Pardubice or Brno to the capital city of Bucharest with a transfer in Budapest. You will depart Prague in the late morning and arrive in Bucharest at noon on the next day. You can return in a similar manner, with an afternoon arrival in Prague. You can travel in comfort not only to the capital city, but also e.g. to popular departure points for expeditions in the Romanian mountains.

Mountains

Romania can be called the kingdom of the Carpathians. Those who enjoy demanding multi-day mountain hikes will be in their element here, as will those in search of endless grassy plains where each day they will meet only a few shepherds tending their herds of sheep. The most extensive and highest mountain range is Făgăraş, and the Apuseni offer great beauty as well. Bare ridges and beautiful views are plentiful in the mountains of Maramureş.

Monuments

Bran, allegedly “Dracula’s Castle”, lies in Transylvania not far from the city of Brașov. The “Secret Castle in the Carpathians” – Castelul Corvineştilor (Hunyad Castle) – is located in the city of Hunedoara. You can get here by train too...
